3:4 Grey – Notes
This is the second of a series of three or four paintings exploring different color schemes.
-
Used 3 contrasting widths of tape in the following sequence:
-
¾” tape – splits the canvas in thirds horizontally
-
2 x ½” tape (= 1”) splits the canvas in thirds from the midpoint of one side radiating to the opposite side
-
3 x ¼” tape (= ¾”) splits the canvas in fourths from the midpoint of one side radiating to the opposite side
-
The tape was sealed with two coats of white gesso
-
The color is completely neutral, in contrast to the original (first) 3:4
-
Used orange Fineline tape (1/2” and ¼”)
-
This tape is meant for pin striping on metal surfaces (automobiles) & doesn’t stick well to a canvas surface
-
This tape also stretches making it even more risky to use in hard edge painting
-
Had to secure the Fineline tape to the back of the canvas (wrap around) using old (but sticky) beige masking tape
-
The hard edge lines were great, considering all the problems & worries
