3:4 Grey – Notes

 

This is the second of a series of three or four paintings exploring different color schemes.

 

 

• Used 3 contrasting widths of tape in the following sequence:

• ¾” tape – splits the canvas in thirds horizontally

• 2 x ½” tape (= 1”) splits the canvas in thirds from the midpoint of one side radiating to the opposite side

• 3 x ¼” tape (= ¾”) splits the canvas in fourths from the midpoint of one side radiating to the opposite side

• The tape was sealed with two coats of white gesso

 

• The color is completely neutral, in contrast to the original (first) 3:4

• Used orange Fineline tape (1/2” and ¼”)

• This tape is meant for pin striping on metal surfaces (automobiles) & doesn’t stick well to a canvas surface

• This tape also stretches making it even more risky to use in hard edge painting

• Had to secure the Fineline tape to the back of the canvas (wrap around) using old (but sticky) beige masking tape

• The hard edge lines were great, considering all the problems & worries
