Some Comments:
-
The largest sun of the three in this series
-
Copper rays seem to undulate & vibrate in a carefree way
-
The staff is completely contained within the sun's core
-
The clef is a standard percussion clef

Concerning the time signature: tried many variations of the notation. Wanted to use notation that might represent eyes, nose and mouth. Would have preferred to use a simpler time signature – 7/8 seemed most appropriate, but the notation would have required dotted quarter notes for eyes (didn’t like the idea). Wanted to use the number 7 in the time signature. Was lucky enough to have settled on 17/8 – seems like a happy-go-lucky set of numbers
-
The eyes, nose and mouth seemed to work well as a facial representation. In a semi-dark room – and at the right angle, the time signature even seems to look like an ear….
-
The notation is meaningfully correct: the whole note eyes-wide-open have tenuto eyebrows, the eighth note rest nose is accompanied by a fermata mouth, and if anything needs to be lengthened – perhaps smiles do….
-
Wanted the spacing of the elements of the staff and notation to be as even and proportional as possible – representing a “perfect” facial distribution

The repeat sign symbolizes an endless loop
