7:3 (Grey) – Notes
-
Used orange tape for lines & fixed the tape to the back of the canvas frame with beige masking tape
-
Used two coats of sealer (GAC 200 & 500 mixture)
-
Mixed black & white acrylic to make grey
-
Needed three coats to cover the black canvas
-
Used saran wrap to cover the unused mixed paint while the previous coat was drying – worked quite well
-
Decided to test the motions, shapes and paint mixtures on a test canvas
-
Used a canvas that Dana had given me
-
Taped and sealed the canvas (one coat of sealer)
-
Tried several types of painting knives – settled on the ones listed in the Painting Documentation
-
Used a small arrow-head painting knife to apply two or three dabs of contrasting colors placed side by side - then mixed/ dragged/ squiggled with painting knives
-
Determined that the best result was obtained by the following sequence: 2 dabs of paint, apply painting knife, do a third dab, final motion with painting knife
-
For the final painting, chose black, white, red and yellow
-
Followed the procedure: 2 small dabs of paint, apply painting knife, do a third small dab, final motion with painting knife
-
All motions were from the top to the bottom
-
Sometimes more than one motion was used on the final squiggle to achieve a satisfactory mixture, but the fewer the motions, the better
-
Definitely a break-through painting – the heart was pounding & hands were shaking. Truly excited!
-
Needs to be viewed as closely as possible
