6 In The Time Of 7

6:7 (Blue Stripes) – Notes

  • Was very disappointed in the original (read about it in ??)

  • Decided to re-do the painting in a manner truer to the original concept (bigger contrast between red & blue)

  • Tried opacifier for the first time (red background) – worked great. Didn’t save a coat, but the result was a deeper & more consistent red with the same number of coats.

  • Used stripes of blue in the following order (top to bottom):

  • outside stripes (top & bottom) are Pthalo Blue, then from top to bottom: darkest is Cerulean Blue, then Cerulean Blue mixed with white (tone), then Light Blue Permanent followed by Light Blue Permanent mixed with black (Tint?)

  • The intent was an arc form: dark to light to dark

  • From the start, decided that this painting would be the first to explore multiple tapings. Was worried that the original tape might not pull off very well due to the paint thickness as the layers progressed

  • Turned out to be no problem at all.

  • Had no clue what I was going to do after the stripes were complete, but the twins were coming for a sleep-over the next day so I had to finish & clean up asap.

  • Decided to use a color wheel color scheme: purple and orange are part of a triad and yellow is a compliment of purple. Black and white (grey) are neutral colors.

  • Decided on the shapes for no particular reason – just thought it might look ok

  • Very happy with the outcome….
